Leo Matsuoka

Leo Matsuoka, Violinist, age 25, currently engages in a teaching assistant position at the University of Colorado Boulder under the instruction of Alex Gonzalez. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Eastman School of Music studying with Oleh Krysa and Robin Scott, and his masters with Ryan Meehan and Jeffery Myers of the Calidore String Quartet.
An avid chamber musician, Leo has performed as a member of Chamber Music OC’s distinguished pre-college program and participated in master classes with Phil Setzer, Robert DeMaine, the Jupiter String Quartet, Julian Martin, and Margaret Batjer. In addition Leo is a founding member of multiple groups, such as the Trellis String Quartet and Genesee Piano Trio and a recipient of the John Celentano Award for Excellence in Chamber Music upon graduation from the Eastman School of Music. Leo also has extensive experience participating in orchestras, recently performing as Assistant Concertmaster with Symphony in C, as well as serving as principal second violinist and concertmaster of many other ensembles. His previous teachers include Iryna Krechkovsky and Ayako Sugaya. Leo began formal training at the age of 10 and attended the Orange County School of the Arts Instrumental Music program.
