Lance Johnson

Cello Instructor

Originally born and raised in Colorado Springs, Lance Johnson is a dedicated and highly accomplished cellist based in Boulder, Colorado. Lance has an extensive career in chamber music, orchestral playing, and as a soloist. In his youth he attended Thomas Maclaren State Charter School, where he was continually praised for his musical prowess, eventually going on to win the prestigious “Golden Scroll Award”. He additionally spent a year in the CSYSA collegiate preparatory program as their top student. Currently, he is a Cello Performance major at the University of Colorado Boulder studying under the renowned David Requiro.

Lance’s immense chamber music experience stems from his time spent at the Manitou Chamber Music Festival for which he has been a fellow for the past 4 years, cultivating an intense chamber music persona. Lance has even appeared on stage several times with the great world renowned pianist, Cullan Bryant. In 2022, he was accepted into the prestigious aria international, which paved the way for his vast experience as a soloist. Lance has appeared as a soloist in the Colorado College Chamber Orchestra where he resided as their principal cellist for 2 years. In 2024, he debuted a double concerto with the Canon City Chamber Orchestra, composed by Colorado’s very own Gerald Willis. Lance currently resides as the principal cellist and returning soloist of the Royal Gorge Philharmonic and Canon City Chamber Orchestra. Lance has made appearances in several other well known Colorado orchestras such as the Boulder Symphony, Symphony of the Rockies, Colorado All State Orchestra, and the Western States Honors Orchestra.
