Dr. Jill Burgett
Piano and Guitar Instructor
Dr. Jill Burgett is a professor and the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Northern Colorado and teaches piano, guitar, and voice for the DaVinci Center for Musical Arts. With decades of teaching in several states including Denver School of the Arts, K-12 music, and private lessons, she is adept in many genres including classic, music theater, and jazz for piano/guitar/vocals/choir. Jill loves inspiring students and helping her students grow with a student-centered approach to learning that is engaging, focused on musical excellence, and student success. Her focus and guiding principle is: “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled”. ~ Plutarch
For over 16 years, Jill has been a professor at UNC and presently conducts several top choirs at UNC, teaches choral methods and conducting, as well as teacher prep courses. She received her Bachelors in Music Education from Heidelberg University (magna cum laude) with vocal emphasis, and her Master of Music degree (choral conducting/ voice secondary area) and her doctorate in choral conducting, with a cognate area of study in music education from Ball State, wherein she was awarded the Don Neuen fellowship. Thereafter, she became the Associate Director of Choral Activities there.
Jill’s other accomplishments of merit include National Collegiate Choral Organization board, President of Colorado ACDA, soloist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Toledo Philharmonic, National ACDA Arts Equity Task force and Colorado CMEA Collegiate Council, active festival clinician, conference speaker, All-State Choir conductor, published in Choral Journal and New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, performance venues include Varna (Bulgaria), Barcelona, Montserrat, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, London, Paris, Beijing, Bangkok, and Rome, teaching conducting choral masterclasses in Rome, and Barcelona, Carnegie Hall debut in May 2023 with the UNC Choirs, along with many upcoming performance and festivals planned both nationally and internationally for 2026.
