Emma Coffey

Piano, Piano Playtime, Voice

Emma began piano lessons at age eight and singing lessons at age nine. In her first voice lesson, she explained to her teacher that she was taking lessons for fun, and she NEVER wanted to sing in front of anyone. A year later, her teacher encouraged her to participate in the City of Thornton’s local arts competition, TASHCO. Here, she placed first in her division. Her confidence grew, and she developed a love for music, teaching, and performing.

Emma loves to perform for her local community. Her venues include assisted living/memory care facilities, malls -such as the well-known 16th street mall in Denver, CO- and at the City of Thornton’s annual “Winterfest.” Her favorite place to have performed was as a wedding soloist at the iconic and beautiful U.S Air Force Academy Chapel. Community performances are especially important to Emma, as they allow her to engage with her audience on a more personal level. Creating connections within communities is what she believes to be the artist’s purpose.

Ms. Emma wants to share with her students the same positive impact that music lessons had on her. Her goal as a voice and piano teacher is to give students the tools to grow into confident and capable musicians. She has three years of experience in teaching both voice and piano, and her students typically range from age six to young collegiate. She also has experience and a passion for working with cognitive and neuro diversity. Ms. Emma enjoys the creativity involved with planning individual lessons for every student. She hopes her students not only grow in musicality, but in character, confidence, and knowing their own selves.

Emma graduated in May 2021 with an M.M. degree with high honors in Voice and Pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. At Peabody she was awarded the George Castelle Prize in Voice. She graduated summa cum laude with a B.M in Vocal Performance from Colorado Mesa University in 2019, where she received a Presidential Scholarship.

Emma has lived in Thornton, CO for the past 17 years and loves to enjoy the sunshine. You can usually find her sitting in her backyard, sipping a cup of iced coffee (Starbucks, preferably), and enjoying a book. Be sure to ask her about her Squishmallow collection!
